Biography

Francis Brûlé - studio

Driven by his passion for music and his creativity, Francis Brûlé is currently completing a master's degree in composition and sound creation at the Université de Montréal for which he received scholarships of excellence in the winter of 2024 and fall of 2024. He made his first compositions around the age of eleven and took his first piano lessons at the age of five. He completed a DEC in jazz/pop piano at Cégep de Joliette in 2009, a bachelor's degree in music - writing in 2012 at the Université de Montréal as well as a major in digital music at UdeM in 2022. For his master's research, he aims to identify, explore and bring together the formal, stylistic and technical paradigms of the worlds of acousmatic-concrète music and popular music through the composition of a set of performative visual music works.

His project eventually led him to do a research stay in the form of an artist residency at the Centro Mexicano para la Mùsica y las Artes Sonoras (CMMAS) in Morelia, Mexico, in the fall of 2024 (September 23 to November 29) with the composer Rodrigo Sigal.

A multi-instrumentalist, he is first and foremost a pianist, but also a singer and guitarist. He completed two sessions as a teacher in computer-assisted music at the Recording Institute of Canada (RAC) in Montreal in 2023. Having varied interests and seeking collaborations that can allow him to broaden his creative horizons, he collaborated on an audiovisual performance with visual artist Louis Turcotte in the fall of 2023 in addition to being one of the founding members of the Ensemble de Feedback Libre founded by Merlin Campbell. He also has courses in comics, visual art, performance art and sound creation for video games.

From songs to video game music to electroacoustics, Francis is a passionate, versatile and hard-working composer.
